Alexander Technique Teachers on the San Francisco Peninsula

This web site describes the work of the teachers, graduates and students of the Northern California Center for the Alexander Technique, Palo Alto, California. George Lister started the training course in 2004, and the staff teachers also include Sally Munro, Rita Rivera and Sally Greenawalt. Jonathan Salzedo and Sonia Shell are the first graduates of the program.

The Training Program

The program is approved by AmSAT and consists of 1600 hours of class time, spanning at least three years. It fully represents the principles of the technique, as described and practiced by F M Alexander, providing a space for individual exploration and growth, and a solid foundation for teaching the technique. For Jonathan and Sonia training to become Alexander Technique teachers was a terriffic experience, surpassing their expectations. While they are pleased to be graduates, and remain connected with the Center, they miss the daily contact with that community.

If you think you might be interested in taking a teacher training course, please contact our school or check the AmSAT list of approved courses. Traditionally there has been a huge gap between taking weekly or twice weekly lessons, and taking the full teacher training course. In recent times, weekend intensive courses, and single half-semester or full-semester intensives have started to open up. Our school also offers such short courses from time to time.

Trainees

Among the attendees and teachers of the training course are musicians and dancers. Performings artists of all kinds benefit enormously from this work. The training course includes weekly voice productions and movement components.
