Sonia Shell

Sonia Shell came to the Alexander Technique through the urgings of her voice teacher. She began lessons in 2001 with George Lister and joined his brand new training course (The Northern California Center for the Alexander Technique) at its inception in 2004. She completed the course in July 2007. She continues to participate in the school and recieve private instruction.

Sonia began studing cello and guitar when she was 8 and 5-string banjo at 15. She has maintained a lifetime of study and fascination with these instruments, particularly banjo, winning runner up in the Winfield Kansas National Championship in 1993. She has performed, recorded and toured extensively. Her musical interests which began with folk, bluegrass, country, blues, and early rock are now leading her to latin and bossa novas.

Sonia has been teaching 5 string banjo and guitar at Joplin Sweeny Music Co. in Los Gatos since 1984 and now, Alexander Technique. She lives in San Jose with her two daughters Emma and Tess.

Sonia has found Alexander Technique to be extremely helpful and useful, both in her instrument technique (it's a lot easier to play!) and in general living. Once plagued with bad stage jitters, general shoulder tension and nervousness, she finds it a lot easier to access "the best of herself". She is excited about the work and excited about working with others.
