Jonathan Salzedo

Jonathan Salzedo became interested in Alexander Technique in the mid-1970's. Educated in mathematics at Oxford University and in harpsichord performance Trinity College of Music, London, he was eeking out an existence as a freelance musician. Looking for an easier way of playing his instrument, he chanced upon Alexander Technique. He soon realized the power of this method when applied to playing, and took regular lessons for many years with Nelly Ben-Or, RoseMary Gardener and George Lister. While conventional teachers had always talked about relaxation and touted specific strength-building exercises, Jonathan found that none of this really made sense until he had Alexander Technique as a framework for interpreting their suggestions. Seeking a more profound experience of the technique than what he had acquired through weekly lessons, he embarked on the teacher training course in 2004 and graduated in 2007. Now he combines Alexander teaching with successful careers in music and freelance software. Married to harpsichord/recorder player Marion Rubinstein, he has two wonderful grownup children - Simon, a mathematics PhD student at Stanford, and Laura, a music/violin major at Sacramento State.
